How to Report Unclaimed Property: Filing Deadlines and Extensions

Insurance companies must submit their report and remittance of abandoned property prior to May 1 of each year. This report will include all items considered abandoned as of December 31 of the preceding year.

All other businesses and financial institutions must submit their report and remittance of abandoned property prior to November 1 of each year. This report will consist of all items considered abandoned as of June 30 of the same year.

Extensions may be granted, if requested in writing, with a valid reason for an extension and received prior to the due date. Prompt filing of your report is crucial, so that efforts to locate the missing owners and return their property are not delayed.
