Application Guide: Completing the OCFO Employment Application

To be considered for a position with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), you must submit a complete OCFO employment application. All materials, including transcripts and supporting documents, should be received by 5 p.m. ET on the first screening date listed in the vacancy announcement. While applications received after this deadline may be considered, timely submission is strongly encouraged.

Your application should clearly demonstrate how your experience, qualifications, and skills meet or exceed the minimum qualifications outlined in the announcement. Additionally, your responses to the supplemental questions (ranking factors) are required and used to assess your specialized experience for the role. Each position may have different questions, so be sure to provide specific examples that highlight your relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities. Carefully ensure all information in your application, resume, supporting documents, and ranking factor responses is truthful and accurate. All submitted information will be verified, and any misrepresentations may result in disqualification or termination, if hired.

Step 1: Visit our careers page

Open your Web browser and navigate to the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) careers page using the following link: governmentjobs.com/careers/dc.

Step 2: Explore Available Positions

Browse through the available job listings to find positions that match your experience, skills, interests, and qualifications. You can filter the listings by various categories such as job department, category, type, and estimated annual salary to narrow down your search.

Step 3: Select a Job Posting

Click on a job title to view the full job posting. Take your time to review the job details, brief description of duties, minimum qualifications, and questions to ensure the position aligns with your experience and career goals. Pay close attention to the line under Job Details that reads “IF "OPEN UNTIL FILLED," FIRST SCREENING DATE:” Be sure to submit your application by close of business (5:00 PM ET) of the First Screening Date. In the event more applications are requested after the first screening date has passed, your application will be reviewed, and, if it passes, forwarded to the hiring team.

Step 4: Start Your Application

Step 5: Sign In/Create an Account

If you are a new applicant, you need to create an account on the application portal. To create an account, select “Create an account”  and then enter your e-mail address and create a password.

If you already have an account, sign in using your credentials. If you have forgotten your password, select “Reset Password”  and then follow the steps to reset your password. If you need further assistance, contact technical support at (855) 524-5627 and select option #1.
 

Step 6: Start the Application

Fill out the required fields in the application form, including personal information, work experience, education, and references.

Step 7: Upload Documents

Under the Attachments section, upload any required documents such as your resume, cover letter, transcripts, certificates, or other supporting materials as specified in the minimum qualifications section of the job posting. Be sure to review the document requirements carefully and ensure all documents are properly formatted and labeled. It is highly recommended that you upload a resume, as it may contain supplemental information that can be used to qualify you for the role.


 

Step 8: Answer Questions

 

  • Respond to Agency and Supplemental Questions with accurate information.
    • Agency questions include other names ever used, Social Security number, date of birth, etc.
    • Supplemental questions are specific to the job and can serve as ranking criteria during the evaluation process. All applicants must provide well-written, thorough, substantive, and error-free responses to these three supplemental questions. Please note that these questions are mandatory and allow you to showcase how your experience aligns with the role.

Before submitting your application, carefully review all the information you have provided to ensure accuracy and completeness. Remember, anything you provide on your application will be verified. Step 11: After Applying

After submitting your application, it will be reviewed. If it passes the initial review stage, it will be forwarded to the hiring team. If you are offered an interview, someone on that team will be in touch to schedule a virtual or in-person interview. To prepare for the interview, fully acquaint yourself with the duties of the role, the agency where the vacancy is housed, and be prepared to meet with a panel of at least 3 interviewers.
