Mitiku Shifa was appointed to the position of cluster controller for the Education Cluster in October 2025. As cluster controller, Shifa is responsible for the overall accounting-related activities and functions of the cluster and is responsible for advising the associate chief financial officer on the formulation, prescription, and promulgation of financial management policies, standards, guidelines, controls and procedures. Shifa joined the Office of the Chief Financial Officer in August 2020, as a controller for the University of the District of Columbia.
Shifa has extensive years of service in the United States and abroad in positions such as chief financial officer, finance director, and finance business partner in not-for-profit organizations, microfinance institutions, and in a globally listed public company.
Shifa holds a doctorate in global business and leadership from CIU, USA, a master’s degree in professional accountancy from UOL, UK, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting and development economics from AAU, Ethiopia. He is also a certified public accountant (licensed in the US, Virginia) and a fellow chartered certified accountant (ACCA, UK).
