John Nitz is the agency fiscal officer for the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, DC National Guard, Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants, and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice, among others. He is also the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) point-of-contact for major events, such as the Jonas Snowstorm, the World Series, and is the OCFO representative for the Presidential Inauguration. He is currently working with the Office of the Chief Information Officer to develop and implement a new executive dashboard.
Previously, Nitz served as the deputy chief financial officer for DC Public Schools (DCPS). Along with his daily duties, he also developed on-line reports that were distributed to both central administration staff and individual schools bringing transparency in reporting to the agency. Before joining DCPS, he served the director for Information Systems and Operations for the Office of Budget and Planning, where he developed the District’s first enterprise budget system, which is still currently being used today.
Nitz has a bachelor's accounting and finance from Wayne State College, Nebraska. He is also a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO) and frequently presented at both GFOA and NASBO annual conferences.
