Politics & Prose Book Event: Jacqueline Woodson - Brown Girl Dreaming

Last Date:

Three-time Newbery Honor author Jacqueline Woodson (Locomotion, After Tupac and D Foster, Feathers) recounts her childhood in verse. In the clear voice of a watchful child, the turmoil of the late '60s and early '70s is rendered personal through the stories of Woodson's family, including her uncle, whose military buzz cut becomes an afro as he becomes a Black Panther, and converts to Islam in prison. Alongside these cultural shifts are the smaller, timeless dramas of childhood.
