Director, Accounting Operations
Tonja Lowe is the Director of the Accounting Operations Division, a position which she has held since 2010. In that capacity, Ms. Lowe has oversight responsibility for the following functions: monthly cash and investment reconciliations; maintenance of the District’s general ledger (including routine analyses of general ledger account balances); and preparation and posting of journal entries.
Ms. Lowe was first employed with the District of Columbia government in October 1999. During her tenure with the District government, prior to assuming her current role, Ms. Lowe has held a number of positions within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, including: Disability Compensation Manager (Department of Employment Services); Accounts Payable Manager (Department of Employment Services); Revenue Manager (Economic Development and Regulation Cluster); Systems Accountant (OFOS Accounting Systems Administration); and Controller (D.C. Public Schools).
Prior to joining the District government, Ms. Lowe worked as an Audit Manager with a regional independent accounting firm that specializes in governmental and non-profit accounting, auditing, and consulting.
Ms. Lowe is a certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University located in Washington, DC.
